| The WHO recently declared Sickle Cell Disorder a ‘global public health priority’ (2006). In addition, the United Nations declared June 19 of every year Global Sickle Cell Day. This means that health care professionals including genetic counselors would find themselves more and more in the spotlight. West Africa is the home of sickle cell and Nigeria is its capital.
